Deion Sanders Says He Was Robbed During His First Game As A College Coach

Deion Sanders' debut as Jackson State football coach was marred after somebody broke into his office during the game and stole his personal belongings. Sanders made the announcement during a media session following his team's 53-0 win over Edward Waters.

"Number one, the kids played really well," Sanders told reporters. "But while the game was going on, somebody came in and stole every darn thing I had in the locker room, coaches' office. Credit cards, wallet, watches. Thank God I had on my necklaces."

Sanders said that walking into this office to find his belongings had been stolen dampened an otherwise great evening.

"So how do you think it feels, coming back, after just teary-eyed because the guys had presented me with the game ball, one of the best moments I've ever had in my professional sports career emotionally. And then you go into your locker room, your coach's office to digress, and you notice that you don't even have a phone to call your mama, call your girl, call your kids because it's been stolen. ... We're gonna find out who did it."

After the game, the school told ESPN that Sanders' belongings were "misplaced and found."

Sanders disputed that claim on Twitter, saying that his assistant caught the alleged perpetrator in the act.

"Whomever putting out the lie that my belongings wasn't stolen is LYING. My belongings were taken out of a zipped bag in my office and more items were taken as well from my office. We have retrieved them since being reported. My Staff member witnessed the crime. #Truth," Sanders tweeted.

Jackson State athletic director Ashley Robinson issued a statement saying the school will review its security procedures following the incident.

"Immediately following our win today, several items belonging to Coach Prime were taken from the locker room. Those items were quickly recovered and returned. While we consider this an isolated incident, we are thoroughly reviewing security protocols to ensure this does not happen again. However, we refuse to let this dampen the victory for our JSU Tigers, who have worked hard for this moment."

It is unclear who took the items, or if the school is working with the police to investigate the theft.
