IOWA - About one third of Iowa residents are now vaccinated with at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine.
The state has steadily improved its standing for delivering doses.
It's now in the top ten for using doses it's been given by the federal government, according to data from the New York Times.
Iowa is also now tied for 11th in fully vaccinating people, after ranking at the bottom in recent weeks.
Iowa state data shows 379,231 people have completed the vaccinations, which translates to about 13 percent of the state's population.
Governor Kim Reynolds released a statement Friday announcing the one millionth vaccination.
“Today is another important milestone in Iowa’s strong recovery from the pandemic," said Reynolds. "This has been a monumental effort, and our state has proven that we have the right teams, providers and processes in place to safely and efficiently vaccinate Iowans in a timely manner."
The state says about 95 percent of people 65 and older, along with 27 percent of adults under 65, have received at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine.
Another group of people is eligible for vaccines beginning Monday. It includes farm and manufacturing workers as well as homebound disabled people and their caretakers.
Vaccine providers in Iowa still have long waiting lists of people looking for doses.
