Des Moines, IA -- The City of Des Moines be the site for an Olympic Qualifying event this spring, ahead of the Tokyo Olympics this summer.

Lauridsen Skatepark in downtown Des Moines will be the location for the 2021 Dew Tour, sponsored by Mountain Dew. The event is the only Olympic qualifying skateboarding competition to be held in the United States this year.

The competition will run from May 20th - 23rd. More than 300 male and female competitors are expected to participate, seeking a spot in this summer's Olympic Games.

Skateboarding makes its Olympic debut at the Tokyo Games this year.

The park is the dream of local skateboarding supporters, like Jan Hill.

"We've been working on this for 14 years." Hill said. "My son is a skateboarder, we had traveled all over the country to skate parks, and we said why can't Des Moines do this?"
