Human remains found near DeWitt, Iowa are missing 10-year-old girl

DAVENPORT, Iowa -- Davenport Police have identified the human remains found near DeWitt as Breasia Terrell.

The 10-year-old girl went missing in Davenport last July.

"This news is heartbreaking," said Davenport Police Chief Paul Sikorski. "To both Breasia's family and the Davenport community. Our deepest sympathies and heartfelt prayers are with all of those affected by this tragic loss."

Sikorski says the case is now officially a homicide investigation.

"We've been conducting this investigation over the last nine months as if it was," he said.

Terrell's body was found last week by people fishing in a pond near DeWitt, in Clinton County.

Sikorski says no charges have been filed yet in her disappearance or death.

"I don't have a timeline for possible charges," he said. "I will tell you that our Davenport investigators are working with agents from the DCI and our FBI partners."

He says an investigation by his department and the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation is ongoing.
