Iowa welcomes home hundreds of National Guard soldiers

(Undated) -- Hundreds of Iowa National Guard soldiers are back home after a year-long tour of duty overseas. Welcome home ceremonies were held at the Eastern Iowa Airport in Cedar Rapids and the Quad City International Airport. More Iowa National Guard soldiers are due back next week, arriving Des Moines, Dubuque, Sioux City, and Waterloo.

Soldiers returning today (Friday) are with the 1st Battalion “Ironman,” 133d Infantry Regiment, Iowa Army National Guard. The Ironman Battalion supported Operation Spartan Shield in the U.S. Central Command. It was the fifth federal mobilization for the Ironman Battalion since 2000.

Approximately 130 Soldiers with Company B, 1-133d Infantry arrived at the Eastern Iowa Airport this afternoon. Approximately 110-soldiers from Company D, 1-133rd Infantry arrived at the Quad City International Airport in Moline, IL.
