DOUGLAS CO., Nebraska -- Six people are facing criminal conspiracy charges for overcharging customers at the Douglas County Landfill.

Landfill supervisor Mark Huntley, landfill clerk Mark Helmberger, employees Lara Anahi and Suzanne Swanson, and debris haulers Gary Cooper and Hector Flores were arrested last night.

KFAB news partner WOWT-TV 6 reports the employees would overcharge anyone using the landfill and pocket the difference.

Waste Management owns the Douglas County landfill.

The company says that's all they do, and the county is responsible for staffing and management.

The county's commissioner tells TV-6 News the misuse of taxpayer money is unacceptable.

"It's very disturbing. When you hear potentially money has been taken or something illegitimate has been done, regardless of what it is, it's something we need to get a handle on," said Douglas County Commissioner Maureen Boyle.
