DMPD Responds to Downtown Shooting, Gun Violence at Party this AM

DES MOINES, Iowa -- Des Moines police are responding to recent gun violence in the city.

Police are investigating after an early morning shooting in downtown Des Moines.

In a news release this morning, police say two women were shot inside a bar at 216 Court Avenue around 1 a.m.

They say both women were taken to a local hospital and are expected to survive.

No one has been arrested yet, but police say they interviewed witnesses on the scene.

About the same time, Des Moines police a man was arrested for gun possession at a large party on Army Post Road.

Police say they were called out on a report of a handgun at the party and arrived to find a man pointing a gun at another person.

Police say 28-year-old Zakar Jeffrey was arrested for possession of a weapon as a felon, and because the gun was found to be stolen, he was also charged with trafficking in stolen weapons.
