Hy-Vee No Longer Requiring Appointments for COVID-19 Shots

IOWA - Hy-Vee is now offering walk-in COVID-19 shots.

The company's website says vaccines are available at all Hy-Vee Pharmacies with no appointment necessary.

The loosening of access comes as demand for the shots has waned and most of Iowa's counties are now turning down some or all their vaccine allotment from the state.

Vaccine shots in Iowa peaked in early April and have fallen off in the weeks since then.

University of Iowa Health Care announced this week it's joining a national campaign to motivate more people to get vaccinated for COVID-19.

It's targeting groups that are more resistant to getting vaccinated, such as rural and young people, who could delay the country from reaching herd immunity.

Hy-Vee is offering all three vaccines available in the U.S. - Pfizer, Moderna and Johnson & Johnson.

People seeking a vaccine at Hy-Vee are asked to bring an insurance or Medicare card if applicable, a photo ID and a mask. Health insurance is not required to receive a COVID-19 vaccine.

West Des Moines based Hy-Vee is offering the easier access the vaccines at all its pharmacies in eight midwestern states - Iowa, Illinois, Kansas, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, South Dakota, and Wisconsin.
