Des Moines Water Works Says the Water is Fine

Des Moines Water Works

(Des Moines, IA) -- Many people in the Des Moines area have complained on social media that the water coming from their faucets has tasted swampy and smells like Sulphur. Des Moines Water Works Manager Ted Corrigan told WHO that Water Works treats the river water daily with powdered Carbon to help with the taste and smell. Corrigan says the quality of the river water changes often, and Water Works has to balance the changes in quality with the Carbon. He says that mix isn’t always perfect and if that’s a little off, and the river changes in quality, sometimes the water will appear swampy. But Corrigan says even if the water smells or tastes funny, it is still safe to drink and meets Water Quality Standards.
