Des Moines PD: Speeding car hits two motorcyclists, killing two

UPDATE:

(Des Moines, IA) -- Des Moines Police the driver of Mercedes Benz was speeding when the car hit two motorcycles Tuesday night near East High School.

The driver and passenger of one motorcycle were killed. The person on the second motorcycle is hospitalized. Police say after hitting the motorcycles, the car crashed into a utility pole, shearing it off at the ground. Witnesses say those in the car ran away.

Those killed have been identified as 51-year-old Jerry Coles and 47-year-old Kristy Hyde, both of Des Moines. The person injured is 46-year-old Stacey Coles-Behle

Des Moines Police are currently searching for the driver involved in a fatal crash that killed two motorcyclists on Tuesday night.

The crash happened near East 14th Street and Washington Avenue around 8:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Two people have died, a passenger is injured in unknown condition. Police say the driver of the car involved in the crash abandoned the scene.

An investigation is underway.
