(Des Moines, IA) --- One person's dead after an early morning Des Moines crash. Police say the driver of an S-U-V crashed into a tree at 19th Street and Mondamin Avenue, before 6 o'clock. Police say the man killed was 39-year-old Trayvon Cathren of Des Moines. Police say he was the driver and only person in the car.
The crash prompted police to close 19th Street at College Avenue for several hours.
Investigators say it appears excessive speed and failure to maintain control are significant contributing factors. Cathren was not wearing a seat belt.
