Des Moines Man Accused of Murder Requests New Attorneys After Mistrial

(Des Moines, Iowa) -- A Des Moines man accused of murdering a woman and her two children is requesting new lawyers after his first trial ended in a mistrial.

Marvin Esquivel Lopez wrote a letter to Judge David Porter, saying his attorneys aren't working in his best interest and have made a lot of mistakes.

He's accused of killing a 29 year-old Rossibeth Flores-Rodriguez and her two children, 11 year-old Grecia Daniela Alvarado-Flores and 5 year-old Ever Jose Mejia-Flores, in 2019.

His first trial was declared a mistrial in April, after the jury was able to agree on a verdict in the murder of the mother but could not agree on a verdict in the deaths of the two children.
