Iowa's Unemployment Rate Up Slightly to 3.8%

IOWA - Iowa's unemployment rate is up slightly to three-point-eight percent.

The number of unemployed people rose, but the overall labor force also grew, which means there are more people in the job market.

Iowa’s jobless rate is seventh lowest in the country.

By the numbers, Iowa's unemployment rate is up from 3.7 percent in March to 3.8 percent in April. The national average is 6.1 percent.

Iowa's labor force grew from 1,638,000 to 1,640,600. The number of unemployed people is up from 60,800 to 61,600. Overall employment in Iowa rose from 1,577,100 to 1,578,900.

The national unemployment average is slightly up from 6.1 percent to 6.2 percent.

Two of Iowa's neighbors to the west - Nebraska and South Dakota - are tied for the lowest unemployment rate in the country at 2.8 percent.
