Cristhian Rivera Murder Trial Heads into Day 6

DAVENPORT, Iowa - The defense will continue making its case Wednesday in Day Six of the Cristhian Rivera murder trial.

He's accused of murdering University of Iowa student Mollie Tibbetts in 2018.

People associated with Rivera (his aunt along with his former girlfriend and mother of his child) testified Tuesday that he's a responsible worker and father who is not a violent person.

The defense quizzed Tibbetts boyfriend, Dalton Jack, about his relationship with Tibbetts and problems they may have had. Jack then told the prosecution on cross examination that he had nothing to do with Tibbetts disappearance.

A DNA expert and Fingerprint analyst were also called to testify Tuesday by the defense, but were unable to dispute any factual evidence previously presented by the prosecution.

During its opening statement Tuesday, the defense stated that the trial is about Tibbetts and Bahena Rivera and that the jury should consider justice for both parties. The defense painted Rivera as a hardworking immigrant who was pressured into making a false confession.

Day Six in the trial begins at 8:30 a.m. Wednesday.
