Inmate breaks Iowa Correction officer's nose

(Fort Madison, IA) -- An Iowa corrections officer has a broken nose, after being punched by an inmate this (Wednesday) morning at the State Penitentiary at Fort Madison. Officials say it happened as the officer was escorting an inmate to his cell, when another inmate started punching. Other officers stepped in and restrained the inmate.

The officer was taken to a Fort Madison hospital to be checked out.

The inmate was not injured.
