Former Iowa Congresswoman Abby Finkenauer Considering U.S. Senate Run

IOWA - Former eastern Iowa congresswoman Abby Finkenauer is preparing to possibly run for the U.S. Senate.

Politico reports the one term Democrat is looking to put together a campaign team to run for Republican Chuck Grassley's seat.

Fellow Democrat and Iowa farmer Dave Muhlbauer launched his bid earlier this week, while Republican State Senator Jim Carlin joined the race earlier.

Grassley, who is 87, says he'll make a decision on running for an eighth-term in the Senate this fall. He's already filed paperwork to keep his options open.

Finkenauer won the eastern Iowa congressional seat in 2018 by beating Republican incumbent Rod Blum in an anti-Trump Democratic wave that swept the country.

She was defeated last year by former state representative and TV anchor Ashley Hinson.

Democratic state Auditor Rob Sand has been mentioned as a possible candidate for Grassley's U.S. Senate seat, but has said he's considering a run for Governor instead.
