Vandals Steal 100-Year-Old Lincoln Highway Marker

Lincoln Highway Association

OMAHA, Nebraska -- Vandals steal a more than century old landmark from the Lincoln Highway.

Thieves stole a more than 200 pound, four foot marker from an area near 44th and Dodge Streets sometime over the weekend.

The markers signal the route along the Lincoln Highway, the nation's first cross-country roadway.

It stretches 3,000 miles from San Francisco to New York City, crossing through the Midwest and Omaha.

The Nebraska Lincoln Highway Historic Byway is the only one to cross the entire state.

Vandals target the markers as they could be worth good money to private buyers.

Omaha police are investigating.
