DES MOINES, Iowa -- Two people are hurt after a shooting in Des Moines early this morning outside the new, downtown Entertainment Zone.

Des Moines Police Sergeant Paul Parizek tells WHO Radio News officers in the area heard shots fired in the 100 block of 3rd Street where they found two men with gunshot wounds.

Parizek says neither were the intended target.

The new downtown Entertainment Zone is patrolled and staffed by security who check IDs and conduct quick pat downs of people going in.

He says preliminary evidence shows someone got a gun from outside the fencing of the Entertainment Zone, where the fight continued.

Parizek says the suspect fired and missed their target, hitting two victims who were taken to the hospital and released.

Sergeant Parizek says no one was arrested, although several were detained and later released as the investigation ruled them out.

No charges have been filed.
