CAMANCHE, Iowa -- From a list longer than 60 possible names, a committee of students, faculty, and community members narrowed it down to three, and the school board approved the Camanche Storm at it's meeting Monday night.
Requests to ditch the old name came in letters from Native American tribes in Iowa and Wisconsin, and years of recommendations from other groups.
It's the latest Iowa school to undergo a mascot change, after the school board voted in March to rename the Camanche Indians.
Marion is another district that changed it's school mascot from the Indians to the Wolves.
The Camanche Indians mascot had a 60 year history with the school.
