Iowa still dry, but rains helped

(Undated) -- This week's U.S. Drought Monitor shows some improvement in Iowa. Most of the state is still in some form of drought, but the area considered in severe drought is smaller this week, thanks to welcome rains last week. Southeast Iowa is no longer abnormally dry.

Approximately three dozen of Iowa's 99 counties are severe drought, in northwest, north central, northeast, and central Iowa.

Today's report does not include any rainfall recorded this week.
