Iowa requesting $200 million in federal COVID relief for cities

(Des Moines, IA) -- Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds is requesting $222-million in federal pandemic relief for cities. The $19 billion Coronavirus Local Recovery fund is for U-S cities with populations under 50-thousand. The fund is part of the American Rescue Package of 2021.

Funding could potentially assist 930 city governments in Iowa to access funding.

The Governor's Office says $111 million in Coronavirus Local Fiscal Recovery Funds will be available this fiscal year and an additional $111 in the next fiscal year. Cities have 30 days to submit paperwork to the Iowa Department of Management to receive funding. Cities will also be able to decide how to spend the money, within federal guidance and rules.
