UnityPoint Health Getting Requests Out of State to House COVID-19 Patients

(Des Moines, IA) -- UnityPoint Health says it's getting requests from hospitals in other states to transfer their coronavirus patients to Des Moines. UnityPoint Chief Medical Officer Doctor Tracy Ekhardt says they're getting calls from Missouri to transfer coronavirus patients to Des Moines because Missouri has no ICU beds available. WHO-13 reports UnityPoint does not have many coronavirus patients, but it is keeping an eye on rising coronavirus cases. Broadlawns Chief Medical Officer Doctor Yogesh says most hospitals in Des Moines are short staffed and taking more patients could overwhelm the hospital workers.
