Informant's tip leads to Story County bank robbery arrest

(Nevada, IA) -- An informant's tip has led to an arrest in a central Iowa bank robbery. The Story County Sheriff's Office says recent leads led them to arrest 35-year-old Brian Brutas. Maxwell State Bank employees say on April 10th, 2018, two men entered the bank with handguns and ordered them to the floor. The robbers made off with more than 16-thousand dollars.

Investigators also learned the suspects had been driving a vehicle that had been reported stolen from Des Moines the day before the bank robbery. Brutas was located in Johnson County and is in custody is in the Story County Jail.

He's facing the following charges:

Robbery, 1st degree

Theft, 1st degree

Theft, 2nd degree

Four counts of assault while participating in a felony
