Des Moines Man Accused of Fatally Stabbing a Puppy Subdued by Police K-9

(Des Moines, Iowa) -- A Des Moines man accused of stabbing and killing a puppy is in jail after being subdued by a police K-9.

Des Moines Police say Viljar Rosales stabbed his girlfriend's puppy during a dispute Sunday afternoon. The dog was taken to a local veterinary hospital and later died of its injuries.

Police say they spotted Rosales Monday afternoon and deployed a K-9 to chase him. The dog quickly subdued Rosales, who was treated for a bite injury before being taken to the Polk County jail.

He's facing charges of animal abuse and interference with official acts.
