Man and woman charged in death of toddler in Ames

(Ames, IA) -- Ames Police have arrested a man and woman in connection with a toddler's death in west Ames. Police say 25-year-old Trevin Nicholson is charged with First Degree Murder. Twenty-six-year-old Danielle Obrecht is charged with Child Endangerment Causing Death. Nicholson was arrested in Colorado and is awaiting extradition to Iowa. Obrecht is being held in the Story County Jail.

First responders were called to the 12-hundred block of Florida Avenue April 24th, 2021 because of a medical issue involving a toddler. The child was air-lifted to a Des Moines hospital in critical condition and died Sunday, April 25th.

Police say the charges a result of witness interviews, autopsy results, and additional forensic evidence.
