Mike Franken announces candidacy for U.S. Senate seat held by Grassley

(Sioux City, IA) -- Another person announces they're running for Iowa's United States Senate seat currently held by Chuck Grassley.

On Thursday, retired Admiral Mike Franken announced his intention to run in 2022. Franken previously in for Senate in 2020, but lost in the Democrat primary to Theresa Greenfield. Franken is now the sixth candidate running for the seat, including Grassley himself. If re-elected, it would be Grassley’s 8th term as a U.S. Senator, having been elected in 1980. Grassley currently serves in multiple committees including the agriculture and judiciary committees.

Former US Representative Abby Finkenauer, Glenn Hurst, Dave Huhlbauer and Iowa State Senator Jim Carlin have also announced their run against Grassley.
