Data: Calls to Police Down in Des Moines Schools Despite Removing SROs

(Des Moines, IA) -- New data shows calls for police assistance in Des Moines Public Schools are down, even after removing School Resource Officers earlier this year.

The numbers from the Des Moines Police Department say calls to district high schools and middle schools are down compared to the 2018 and 2019 school years.

They say calls related to drugs, guns, assault and sexual assault are either down or steady. The only category that increased was fights.

In 2020, most classes were held online because of COVID-19.
