(Omaha, NE) -- Masks are no longer mandatory for middle school students at Papillion-La Vista Community Schools starting Wednesday.

The district school board did not vote on the topic on Monday, but decided to remove the mask requirement nearly two weeks after doing the same for high-school students.

At a meeting on October 25th, the school board voted to end the mask mandate for high schoolers, replacing the mask requirement with a mask recommendation. The meeting discussed the timeline for the board to roll back the requirement for middle schoolers as well.

On December 13th, the school bard will consider the same procedure for elementary school students. If approved, the change would take effect after the winter break, starting on January 5th.
