(Des Moines, IA) -- The Des Moines City Council is working on a new ward map for the city. On Tuesday the city council voted to send one of three proposed new ward maps to the Polk County Auditor's Office. One of the biggest changes in the proposal is most of downtown would be in the same ward, rather than split between two wards. Some city council members say the change would make the ward map easier to explain. The auditor's office now has 7-10 days to review the map and send it back to the city council with any recommended changes. The city will then finalize the map during a public hearing on December 20th.
