(Des Moines, IA) -- Des Moines has a new initiative aimed at stopping violent crime. On Monday the city council passed the Cure Violence program. The program will allow the non-profit Creative Visions to use a one-year, $380-thousand contract to hire six violence interrupters that will be in the community and help young people at risk for violence. For the first year the focus will be on the Drake and Evelyn K. Davis Park neighborhoods. The goal is to reduce violent crime by around 30%. The rollout begins immediately.
