West Des Moines Students Charged in Middle School Violence Threat

WEST DES MOINES, Iowa -- Five students are facing charges in connection to threats made to a West Des Moines middle school.

West Des Moines Police say two Stillwell Middle School students are being charged with felony counts of terrorism, while three others are charged with misdemeanor harassment.

Police say their investigation started a week ago after they say threats were made verbally and on social media.

They say while the threats were not carried out, "the seriousness of the crimes and the disruption of the school and the learning environment were factors taken into account" when criminal charges were filed.

The five students are being charged in juvenile court.
