Omaha Residents Demanding Change after Dangerous Intersection Claims a Life

(Omaha, NE) -- Omaha residents and a local organization are calling for changes at an intersection after a life was lost last week.

“I would like there to be some sort of safety measure in place. Whether that be a pedestrian walkway, a light, a bridge, something," says Gage Woodyard.

Woodyard is one of the Omaha residents calling for change following the recent fatality.

On January 10th, Sheryl Bringleson was hit by a car, and killed at the intersection of 30th and Stone.

Woodyard tells 6 News some changes have been made, but says the loss of life is a sign that not enough change has been made yet.

“We were able to do a few things like put in signage to direct people to the next pedestrian walkway. We also got approval from the city to turn Miller Park Lane which is one of the roads that intersect with it into a one-way, into the park," says Woodyard. “We thought it was a great victory at the time and you know something like this happens and we realize there’s much much more that we need to do."

Woodyard says the closest pedestrian walkway to the spot Bringleson died is a block away.

The non-profit Omaha Together One Community has already been fighting for improvements on North 30th Street for over a year.
