Des Moines Music Promoter Purchases Val Air Ballroom

(Des Moines, Iowa) -- The Val Air Ballroom is under new ownership.

Business Record reports an LLC managed by local music promoter Samuel Summers has purchased the historic ballroom for 1.9 million dollars. Summers is the owner of East Village music venue Wooly's. He says the Val-Air will continue operations through the end of the year, after which it will undergo a full historical renovation.

The Val-Air was first built as a partially covered ballroom in 1939, and over many decades it has featured performances by artists such as Duke Ellington, Frank Sinatra, the Beach Boys, Willie Nelson, and many more.
