WalletHub: Iowa Has 8th-Highest Taxes In The U.S.

(Undated) -- Iowa has some of the highest overall taxes in the country. That’s according to WalletHub, which says Iowa has the 8th-highest taxes. WalletHub says the average Iowan pays $8,337 a year in state and local taxes. WalletHub also says state taxes in Iowa are 22.07% higher than federal taxes. The state with the lowest overall taxes is Alaska and the state with the highest is Illinois. A full list of states and their tax rates is available here.
