Nebraska Inmate Death Investigated

The Nebraska Department of Correctional Services says 53-year old Melvin Stamper died Sunday evening at the Nebraska State Penitentiary in Lincoln.

His sentence began on November 18th, 2005; 18 to 34 years for two counts of robbery and possession of a deadly weapon by a felon.

The crimes were in Buffalo and Lincoln Counties.

The cause of death has not been determined.

As is the case whenever an inmate dies in the custody of the Nebraska Department of Correctional Services, a grand jury will be impaneled to conduct an investigation.
