Jays To Meet KU After Dramatic Creighton NCAA Comeback

Down 62-53 with 2:30 left Thursday night in their NCAA Midwest Region game, Creighton pulled off a comeback for the ages that Bluejay Nation will remember forever to earn a 72-69 overtime win over the Aztecs of San Diego State.

A "Sweet 16" spot in the NCAA Mens' Basketball Tournament will now be on the line Saturday afternoon when Creighton, a ninth seed, plays the number one seed Kansas Jayhawks at Dickies Arena in Forth Worth.

Tip off is 1:40 p.m. Saturday, and the game will be televised on CBS.

Kansas leads the all-time series with Creighton with a 10-6 record , including a 2-0 mark on neutral courts.

Each of the last two meetings has been decided by a single point, including last season's Top 10 game in Lawrence won by the Jayhawks, 73-72.

The only previous NCAA Tournament meeting was a 55-54 KU win in Tulsa in 1974.

That Creighton team, one of the best in school history, was coached by Hall of Famer Eddie Sutton.

KU, Marquette, UCLA, and North Carolina State advanced to the Final Four that year in Greensboro, and Creighton had a win over Marquette in Milwaukee earlier that season.

After Thursday night's victory, Creighton is 16-23 all-time in the NCAA Tournament.
