His defense team is now presenting its side in the federal trial in Los Angeles of Nebraska Congressman Jeff Fortenberry, and their focus has been on his character.
Democratic California Representative Anna Eshoo testified that Fortenberry “brings integrity to everything he does.”
Former South Carolina Congressman and conservative commentator Trey Gowdy also testfied, and Fortenberry’s wife is also expected to take the stand.
As the prosecution rested, and before the defense took over Wednesday, Fortenberry's attorney made a motion to get the case thrown out, a standard tactic that was rejected by the judge.
Fortenberry is accused of lying to the FBI about 30-thousand-dollars in illegal campaign contributions that he received from a foreign national during a 2016 fundraiser in California.
Fortenberry denies any wrongdoing.
