After Conviction, Next Court Appearance Set For Nebraska Congressman

Now that Nebraska 1st District Representative Jeff Fortenberry has been found guilty on all counts related to lying to the FBI about receiving a foreign campaign contribution, his next court appearance is scheduled for June 28th.

The federal court jury in Los Angeles returned the verdict after two hours of deliberation on Thursday.

The jury finds the Republican guilty on one count of scheming to falsify information and on two counts of making false statements to a government agency.

Each count comes with a maximum penalty of 5 years.

Fortenberry was accused of lying to federal investigators about accepting foreign campaign contributions during his 2016 re-election campaign.

The jury heard closing arguments in the trial Thursday afternoon.
