Omaha Catalytic Converter Law Starts This Week

A new tool in fighting a burgeoning crime category;

The City of Omaha's new catalytic converter ordinance goes into effect this week.

Beginning Wednesday, catalytic converters are considered regulated metals in Omaha that require special permits to possess or to remove from cars and trucks.

Regulated metals permits are available at the Omaha Police Department.

The new law is part of the effort to stop thieves from stealing catalytic converters to sell the valuable metals inside.
