Ground Broken On Memorial To Nebraska Vietnam Vets

Construction is underway on a new Vietnam War memorial in Papillion.

Nebraska Governor Pete Ricketts and former U.S. Senator and Secretary of Defense Chuck Hagel, who with his brother fought in Vietnam, took part in a groundbreaking ceremony on a day when those Americans who served in the Southeast Asia theater were honored and remembered: National Vietnam Veterans Day.

The memorial, which will honor Nebraska's Vietnam veterans and 396 service members who lost their lives in the war, will be built near the SumTer Amphitheater.

Also on Tuesday, in Bellevue, construction started on the $9.4 million, 25,000 square foot expansion of the Eastern Nebraska Veterans’ Home.
