Nebraska Governor Vetoes Fed Rental Assistance Proposal

Nebraska Governor Pete Ricketts vetoes LB 1073, a legislative proposal to require Nebraska to apply for a second round of funding from the federal Emergency Rental Assistance Program.

Ricketts has maintained throughout the legislative session the program is no longer about addressing the impacts of Covid-19, and would create a government subsidy that will make people more reliant on the government for years to come in a state with a very low unemployment rate.

Supporters call for a veto override to help those who have fallen behind on rent payments because of the impact of coronavirus over the last two years.

LB 1073 was introduced by Omaha State Senator Justin Wayne.
