Tax Bill Advances In Nebraska Legislature

Nebraska's 900-million-dollar tax relief package advances out of the first round in the Legislature.

The plan, which failed to advance in the Unicameral by one vote last week, moves forward after being attached to another bill.

The proposal would cut the top individual and corporate tax brackets by one percent, bolster the property tax credit fund, and more quickly phase out taxes on Social Security benefits.

Opponents of the bill say the biggest benefits of the proposal would go to high income earners.

Supporters say it would help Nebraska compete with other states in attracting people and businesses.

There are two more rounds of legislative consideration.
