Des Moines City Council Approves Plan to Build New Townhomes on Fleur Drive

(Des Moines, Iowa) -- A plan to build new townhomes on Fleur Drive is moving forward after the Des Moines City Council voted to approve the project.

The townhomes will be called Oaks on Fleur and include 15 units of about 17 hundred square feet each. The three bedroom, three bathroom townhomes are expected to be priced between $400,000 and $500,000. The development is planned for the corner of Fleur and Willowmere drives.

Not everyone in the community supports the new development. A petition from residents opposing the project gained 300 signatures. Despite the opposition, the City Council vote was nearly unanimous, with only Des Moines Mayor Frank Cownie voting against the project.
