(Undated) -- The Nebraska Democratic Party names their nominee for the special election to replace former Congressman Jeff Fortenberry.

On Tuesday, the NDP announced that Nebraska State Senator Patty Pansing Brooks is their choice to run in the District 1 special election. Pansing Brooks has served in the Nebraska Senate since 2015. In addition to running in the special election, Pansing Brooks is also still seeking the Democratic nomination in the May 10 primary. The general election is November 8th.

The Congressional District 1 special election was called after Rep. Jeff Fortenberry resigned following his felony convictions for lying to the FBI about illegal campaign donations. The winner of the special election will serve out the rest of Fortenberry’s term, which ends January 23, 2023. Nebraska Republicans have yet to announce who they will have run against Pansing Brooks.

The special election to replace Fortenberry takes place June 28th.
