(Des Moines, IA) -- Iowa lawmakers announce the first-ever legislative slow-pitch softball game for charity.

The Iowa Legislature will be split into two teams, the House and Senate Republicans against the House and Senate Democrats.

“While Republicans and Democrats may not always agree on policy here at the capitol, we can all come together in acknowledging the invaluable work these two organizations do for their communities,” says State Representative Carter Nordman. “We are honored and excited to support the Puppy Jake Foundation and the Iowa Food Bank Association.”

Money raised from sponsors and ticket sales will benefit the two charities chosen by each team. Republicans will be representing the Puppy Jake Foundation and Democrats will play for the Iowa Food Bank Association.

The inaugural Legislative Slow-Pitch Softball Game for Charity will take place on May 1st, 2022 at Principal Park.

Tickets are 12 dollars and a purchase will also grant the public access to the Iowa Cubs game at 1:00 pm. The legislative bats will start rolling immediately after the Iowa Cubs - Indianapolis Indians game ends.

“We look forward to a fun night that will benefit two great organizations. This bi-partsian event will further solidify the friendships created in the Iowa legislature that exist across party lines. When coming together to raise money for charity, we are not Democrats or Republicans, we’re just Iowans," says Nordman.

Republican tickets to support the Puppy Jake Foundation can be found here. Democrat tickets sending proceeds to the Iowa Food Bank Association can be found here.

More information on the two charities are available on their websites: puppyjakefoundation.org & iowafba.org.
