Des Moines Man Charged In January Homicide

(Des Moines, IA) -- A man's facing a murder charge stemming from a deadly Des Moines shooting in January of this year. Police say 25-year-old Sam Sando of Des Moines is accused of shooting 24-year-old Trishay Thompson January 9th in the 1400 block of Penn Avenue. Officers arrived after the shooting and found Thompson in critical condition, suffering from a gunshot wound.

Thompson died the next day at the hospital.

Detectives say the shooting was drug-related. Detectives say Sando and another person arranged a drug deal with an associate of Trishay Thompson. Police say during the transaction Sando and the other person attempted to rob Thompson and his associate. Detectives say say two different guns were fired during the robbery attempt.

Sando is being booked into the Polk County Jail as the investigation continues.

Police say another arrest is expected.
