After Omaha Metro Area Drowning, Water Safety Stressed

After a drowning and separate water rescue this week on the same day, on the same Omaha area lake, Wehrspann at the Chalco Hills Recreation area, outdoor and boating experts stress safety as summer approaches.

The most basic is to wear a life preserver;

"You only have seconds, if not a minute or two, to survive in cold water, and water temperatures are running much colder than normal," Nebraska Game and Parks' Greg Wagner tells KFAB Radio News. "Wear a life jacket;"

Chiiled water from the long winter often takes awhile to heat up even though temperatures have risen.
