(New York, NY) -- Iowa is set to play Duke in the men's basketball 2022 Jimmy V Classic in New York City.

The Hawkeyes and Blue Devils will play at Madison Square Garden on December 6th, marking the first meeting between the teams since 2001. Duke leads the series against Iowa 7-0.

This will be Iowa's first appearance in the Jimmy V Classic. Starting in 1995, the event premieres the nation's top men's and women's basketball programs.

Duke will be without Mike Krzyzewski this year, but with new Head Coach Jon Scheyer at the helm, the Blue Devils still come into the 2022 season with the country's number 1 recruiting class. Iowa's class ranks 53rd.

The decision to feature the Hawkeyes in the Jimmy V Classic comes days after Kris Murray's decision to return to college, electing to play his junior season at Iowa instead of entering the NBA Draft. However, several question marks remain for the defending Big 10 Men's Basketball Tournament Champions. With Keegan Murray going pro, Jordan Bohannon graduating, and Joe Toussaint transferring, Iowa will be without 3 starters going into the 2022 season.

Trying to fill the holes, Kris Murray, Patrick McCaffery, Tony Perkins, and company look to lead the Hawkeyes to their fourth consecutive NCAA Tournament appearance.
