Lincoln Police seeing increase in counterfeit money

(Lincoln, NE) -- Lincoln Police say they're seeing an increase in counterfeit money usage.

LPD says from January 1st through June 22nd they have investigated 122 reports of counterfeit currency. Investigators say for comparison, during this same time frame in 2021 they had only 75, which makes for a 62% increase.

The police department says for the calendar year 2021 they had a total of 168 reports of counterfeit currency. Investigators say it appears that most of the counterfeit currency are $20 and $100 bills and being passed at restaurants and convenience stores.
