Second Arrest Made in Des Moines' 11th Homicide of 2022

(Des Moines, IA) -- Des Moines Police say a second person is in custody in connection to Des Moines' 11th homicide of the year.

Police say 19 year-old Violet Terry is facing first degree murder and first degree robbery charges in the shooting death of 22 year-old Charles Lovelady. Police say Terry setup a drug transaction with the victim using social media and also sent multiple texts to co-defendant Darion Hermes regarding a plan to rob Lovelady. Investigators say it appears Lovelady was shot during the robbery and arrived at Broadlawns Hospital with a gunshot wound on July 31st, where he later died of his injuries.

Police are looking for a third suspect, 26-year-old Cedrick Charles Thomas Junior. Detectives believe he may have critical information in the case. Thomas has active, unrelated arrest warrants. He's described as 5'10" tall and weighs 140 pounds. Thomas as a distinct tattoo on his neck.

Detectives say Thomas may be headed to or be in the Cedar Rapids, Iowa area.
